Why choose Devon Adoption?
We owe the greatest respect to people who are willing to adopt a child. They are offering to make a unique and inspiring life-long commitment and do a great service to society, as well as experiencing the joy of adoptive parenthood. The way they are treated by the adoption system should reflect this.
Devon County Council has the responsibility to look after children that cannot live with their birth parents. We care about the children we look after and ensure they are at the heart of everything we do.
We have made the process to adopt simpler; from the formal application this should take no longer than six months. We will help you through every step of the process to adopt, as well as providing a good support network once you have adopted a child.
Who Devon Adoption work with
We place Devon children who need adoptive families with Devon adopters, as well as with adopters across the rest of the UK. This means Devon adopters are able to adopt children from within Devon and across the UK. We have particularly strong links with the other adoption agencies based in the South West, through Adopt South West (Barnardo’s, Devon County Council, Families for Children, Plymouth City Council and Torbay Council), and we work together to find the best placements for children within the county.
As the local authority we are not-for-profit, we simply want to find a loving caring home for our children and give you the support you need to provide that.
We’re here to help
We’re here to help you, whether you’re just starting the process, waiting for a placement, or looking for post-adoption resources. Come along and meet us at one of our monthly information sessions. Our events are a great way to find out more about adoption.
In this short clip (below) Devon’s Senior Manager – Adoption and Fostering, Rachel Gillot, dispells adoption myths; explains the fast-track process; explains who the children are that are waiting to be adopted; and introduces new adoption activity days (2014).
