In the news – Devon cuts application time for adoptions

We have cut the length of time it takes to approve adoption applications in a move to make the process simpler, and to encourage more adoptive parents.

From 1 July 2013, there is a change to the adoption process. There is a new, shorter, two-stage approval process for prospective adopters. The aim of this process is to enable prospective adopters to learn about adoption within the first stage and then move through the approval process.

The new approval process is six months in total with Stage 1 taking two months and Stage 2 taking four months. There is also a new fast track process for some previous adopters and approved foster carers.

For an overview of the new assesment process, please see our Apply to adopt information.
