Meet Kath Drescher – Devon Adoption’s new Operations Manager
Posted on: 26 February 2016
Kath is our new Operations Manager at Devon Adoption. Having recently held the role of Practice Manager in assessment at Families For Children adoption agency, and previously working as Adoption Support Practice Manager at Devon County Council, Kath re-joins Devon Adoption with her experience and influence to keep the needs of Devon’s children at the heart of our decision making.
Originally from a children’s social work background, Kath has specialised in adoption and permanency for the past ten years and, since 1989, has worked with all groups touched by adoption and adoption support, from birth parents and adoptive families, to children of all ages.
“We have a dedicated team of very experienced social workers and community care workers in Devon and they show a superb level of commitment to their profession. Our adoptive parents in Devon provide a loving and stable home to some of our most vulnerable young people, and I am here to listen to adopters and think about their needs and what best for the families.
“At the moment we are prioritising our search for adopters for children aged 4 and over, sibling groups, children with additional needs, and children of black and minority ethnic heritage. These children can often find themselves waiting longer for their forever families than a baby or a toddler.
“If you’re considering adopting a younger child, please enquire about our Fostering to Adopt initiative which protects these children from experiencing multiple moves within the care system. Discover if adoption is right for you.”
When Kath is not reading about adoption, she spends time with her three daughters and loves to cook and take long walks on Devon’s beaches.
Kath will be working from the Devon Adoption office at Follaton House, Totnes, with regular visits to all parts of Devon.
