Mark Berry County Manager Devon Adoption

Mark is our new County Manager at Devon Adoption.  Having recently held the role as Practice Manager for Special Guardianship.

Mark says:

I have been working for Devon County Council since 1999, the first 7 years working with adults and the following 11 years working with children and families. I have been a practice manager for children and family teams for six years and the last two years the practice manager for the special guardianship team, part of Devon Adoption Service.

I am very proud to be appointed as the Interim County Manager for Devon Adoption Services.  I have lived in Devon all of my life and I am committed and passionate about improving the life chances for Devon’s children.  Devon Adoption Services has a culture of constantly looking for ways of improving the service they provide.  It has established an effective and appreciated special guardianship service and currently leading the way in providing fostering for adoption placements.

It is an even more exciting and challenging time for Devon Adoption Service as currently we are in the process of merging with Devon Fostering Services with the aim of ensuring that all children, that are unable to live with their birth parents, have the same level of support and life chances.

We are also working closely with other adoption agencies in the area as a part of the national regionalising adoption agenda.  Devon has recently had approval from their lead members be the host for our regional adoption agency.  This is vindication of the dedicated and professional workers and managers that make up the Devon adoption team.

When I am not at work my main way of unwinding and relaxing is running.  I appreciate that it may not be everyone’s idea of relaxation but for me there is no better way to start or end the day than putting my trainers on and heading out in all weathers.

I will be based in Barnstaple but as a county wide service I will be spending lots of time in the other Devon Adoption Services offices.

Currently, there are more children needing to be adopted than there are adopters so a priority for our service is continuing to search for adopters that can provide homes for some of Devon’s most vulnerable children.  If you are considering adopting a child then please contact us where we can provide you with the information you need to decide whether adoption is right for you.

(Kath Drescher, who was previously Operations Manager at Devon Adoption is now covering all of Devon’s Children in Care as Senior Manager Adoption, Fostering, Youth Offending Team and Atkinson).
